Midwest TJJ Day 1 & 2 by Shai Kaszynski

No one likes traveling, that’s a fact. But, traveling to Israel with TJJ was, yes, exhausting, but still an experience I will never forget. The trip to Israel was long and tiring, who likes over 11 hours on a plane? My favorite part of traveling was seeing Israel’s beautiful landscape as we were landing. It felt so surreal, seeing the place you’ve been planning on seeing for months, always up in the air, but we were there, finally. Once we got back to our hotel everyone was extremely exhausted so we all went to sleep quickly. Then we woke up, the first official day of TJJ 2021! We had plans to go rafting but the plans didn’t go through, but it’s alright because we all got a day to chill and get to know each other. Some people threw footballs indoor, others played spikeball, ultimate frisbee, and basketball. In the morning we had tefillah workshops where we had conversations about varying topics. Some of the titles included, “When you gotta go, you gotta go” and “Songs in tefillah”. Throughout the day we took in the beautiful views of Israel and ate falafel. It was really nice to be able to chill and just relax after a long day of traveling. Later in the day we went on a small day trip to the mall and supermarket. We stocked up on snacks and Israeli food that we wanted to try. At night after dinner we had Chabura’s, our learning group. My group talked about questions. Should we ask questions? What questions should we ask? How hard it can be to ask a question. It was a really special time for me because I got to bond with my friends and advisor and we got to learn and have an open conversation. After our chabura we all said goodnight to each other and went to sleep to prepare for our day ahead of us.
